Blue Claws vs Scrappers

Eight kids showed up this week. Which was good considering that a lot of families started their Spring Break holidays today. But last week's luck didn't hold out and the Blue Claws lost 8-10.
Henry had a beautiful triple with bases loaded...however, the opposing coach (one of those guys who thinks he's managing an MLB team) noticed that Henry's bat was larger than allowed, so it didn't count. With those runs, the Blue Claws would have won the game.
Henry pitched today. He's been working on pitching at practice, but today was his first time pitching in a game. He did a good job, but got a little tired mid-way through the second inning.
Siobhan kept stats again and she caught the other team going out of their batting order. The other coach wasn't too happy about it...said she should have said something sooner. But the ump supported her and the Scrappers got an automatic Out. So once again, every Hawkins did their part (I took pictures & did parent PR on the sidelines).

Dwight's Birthday Tulips

Last October, part of Dwight's 'favorite things'-themed birthday gift was tulip bulbs. I planted them for him last fall. We've been waiting for them to open for a couple of weeks. This morning, they popped open!

Baseball Game -- Lucky Number Seven

This weekend, the weather cooperated and the Teaneck Southern League BLUE CLAWS were able to play their first regular season game.

Unfortunately, only seven (out of ten) players made it to the game, leaving the outfield a little bare.

But...they fought their way to victory! They were behind 13-10 going into the bottom of the final inning, causing great anxiety for Coach Hawkins. But they pulled it together and the final score: 14-13. Go Blue Claws!

Henry played 1st base and catcher. He looks so cute in the catcher's gear...he hates it when I take his picture during games, but look how many good shots I got:

Happy Easter!

Our Easter Bunny Cake. Henry gave it "alien eyes".
The kids are getting so big. How many more Easter mornings will they be willing to pose for Easter Basket pictures? :)

Dwight's macho camo basket. He gets candy + soap and nail care products! :)

My Easter gift to myself. A feather-y, egg-y wreath!

Henry did the eggs all by himself. Here he is, all organized and ready to go.

Baseball Opening Day -- Rainy

The 'parade'. Dwight and Henry are in there...see if you can find them!

It was rainy for yesterday's baseball opening day parade. We got there at 8:30. Dwight had his team organized and ready to go by the 9am start time. Everyone was already wet by then, but thankfully it wasn't too cold and the rain was a steady drizzle, not a downpour.

The kids came onto the field...first the littlest ones, then the softball teams and lastly the various baseball teams by age group. One nice tradition is that they have the local highschool baseball team come out and welcome all the kids onto the field and the captain of the highschool team makes a little speech about trying your hardest and having fun.

Then the national anthem, some special thank you's and finally the first pitch.

After that, we went across to the smaller field for Henry's 10:30 game. Dwight announced positions, the kids ran out onto the field and then the game was cancelled due to rain! It wasn't raining any more or less at that point, so it was really weird. Henry was so mad!

Flat Ellie Visits East Coast Hawkins

Ellie, my cousin Maggie's daughter, sent us a Flat Ellie doll recently. I had a lot of fun taking pictures of her around New York and with my family. Maggie said there was a bit of a competition going on at school about who's "Flat" would travel the farthest...I don't know if New York is far enough away, but since Flat Ellie was in my tote bag every day for two weeks, I'm sure she put on the most commuter miles! She had a couple of mishaps along the way. One of her eyes fell off, but my assistant Katy found it and taped it back on. And she got a bit wet because it always seemed to be raining when I had time to take some photos. And, one morning I took her out of my bag and her head was bent way back, so I had to put some masking tape on the back of her neck so she wouldn't look headless in the remaining photos.
