Jetta Fever

Siobhan and Henry are running in the Jetta Track Club this spring. The coach seems to be testing them out in events because last week he had both of them run the 100m sprint, but this week, he had Henry listed for the 800m + the 1500m and Siobhan for the 200m + the 800m.

Henry was not at all happy about the coach placing him in these races. After viewing the race list, he said that he a.) had a stomachache and b.) is afraid his heart will squeeze out of his chest during long runs. After some strong-arm tactics from dad (mixed with a little 'just give it your best'), he was convinced (resigned?) and headed out to the infield to wait for his start. He came in 8th place in his group and like 25th overall in his age.

It was then not so hard to convince his coach to let him to switch from the 1500m to the 200m. I'd say he had a pretty good strategy!

Siobhan has done very well in all of her races. She came in 7th overall in the 100m last weekend. This Sunday, she started very strong in the 800m and took the lead for the first 400m, but she faded in the 2nd lap, finally coming in 2nd in the trial/4th overall. In the 200m, she ran a strong race, again taking 2nd/5th overall. Very impressive!

Winter Break (last month)

We went to California last month. Flew in and out of SF, but didn't spend even a minute in the city. We got out of the plane and into a car and drove straight to Tahoe. Dwight's parents were already there, so the cabin was warm and cozy when we arrived. Tahoe has had TONS of snow this year, so the sledding and skiing were great. The family across the street built an amazing sled run and we had a lot of fun seeing who got the most air on the jump. The former Minnesotan was the winner, of course! All those years of childhood sledding finally paid off. I am the CHAMPION!
